In her new solo show, Anne-Mareike Hess reveals a body caught by a world that entraps us and constricts us. Embodying by turns Narcissus and Echo — two mythological figures unable to connect with one another — this figure wanders the stage, withdrawn and solitary. But her desire to open up remains powerful and her quest for lightness is intense. Tension versus loosening, numbness versus emotion, harshness versus softness: the Luxembourgish choreographer’s dance resonates deeply within us. In the Air explores our ability to express jubilation, to feel, and to remain alive.
